Even though the system you use to build your business and the sponsor you work with may influence your earnings in MLM network marketing more than anything else, the actual company is also an important consideration.

While reviewing any MLM company, there are several key elements to look at…the company itself, the compensation plan, and the product or service it sells.

Avoid luxury products. Choose products that are necessities. Especially when money is tight, it’s common for customers to cancel re-orders of luxury items. The long term residual earnings in MLM come from monthly product orders. Your earnings will be much more secure if you are building a business based on an essential product or service.

The product needs to be a real value. So many times, mlm products have been over-priced to create the money for the company’s compensation plan. It’s a real challenge when your customer can buy a similar product for less at the mall or health food store. While price alone is usually not the only factor in deciding where to shop, it goes a long way towards credibility for you and your company.

Next, the product has to really work. One of the things that has hurt our industry is mlm products that fall short on performance. Nothing will blemish the reputation of a company and its distributors faster than poor quality or performance of the products.

Finally, and most importantly, your company’s product has to be something you believe in and use yourself. If you can’t get excited about your product, you need to find another business!

Be sure to thoroughly review a company’s product or service before deciding to enroll any MLM network marketing business. It can have a big effect on your success.

Are you looking to represent a multi level marketing or MLM product?  In case you’re still not clear, multi level marketing refers to selling a product but also recruiting others to sell that product as well.  You get commission from your own sales but from the sales of those that you recruit.  This is where the term “multi level” comes into play.  Depending upon how many people you have working under you, your compensation will get larger and larger for each sale.  But how to pick an MLM product to represent?  You have many options and choices, from vitamins and supplements to cosmetics of all sorts, candles, and items for the home.  With so many options, how do you know what’s good for you and what will be the most successful?  There is no right answer or wrong answer of course; what works for you may not be the best choice for someone else.  But let’s look at some things that will make it easier for you to decide on an MLM product to represent.

First, remember that you’ll probably have the most success if you choose a type of MLM product that allows for many different products to be sold on the same website, and they should be related somehow.  For example, wedding supplies and wedding favors can be sold with party supplies, scrapbook supplies, gifts for the home, baby shower supplies, baby gifts, and so on.  Someone shopping for one such MLM product may also be inclined to buy a product that they need as well or that is similar for them.

Second, think of an MLM product that makes sense to you or that you’re familiar with.  If you don’t know what a water filtration system is, how can you sell it to others?  But if you’re a firm believer in vitamins and supplements and in being healthy, then you have an answer as to the type of MLM product that can work for you.  If you think that vitamins are a good idea for everyone or work out a lot, you know that supplements are good for people and you can sell others on these products much easier than if you believe that vitamins are a waste of money.  This is why sometimes too it’s good to think about the MLM product that makes sense to you and that you can use yourself or explain to others.  It’s not to say that men can’t represent cosmetics, but it’s good to be sure you know the difference between lip gloss and lip stain before you do!  If you don’t understand a product you can’t sell it to others!

Choosing an MLM product shouldn’t be difficult, so don’t get overwhelmed with the process.  Don’t let this be the most tedious and time consuming part of the process; after all, you need to put some work toward selling it once you make a decision!  So choose a product and move forward.

Many are told in this industry by their upline that their MLM product is all they ever need.  That its the most important thing in their business.  That you need to have the best product and that your business lives and dies by how good your MLM product is.

This is an opinion held by probably around 95% in this industry about their MLM products.

Here is another take on the whole issue.

At its core, Network Marketing IS about having a network of customers who consume a MLM product, whether it is a physical product, information product, or business product.

However, really, there is no “best” MLM product out there.  What it all comes down to is the MARKETING of that product.  That is what makes it successful.

Case in point from a bricks and mortar store.

McDonalds has a decent product, but definitely not the best product on the market.  But what they are really really good at it is getting people in the restaurant and getting them to buy.  In fact, they are the best in their industry at doing this, and that is why they are the biggest in the world.

Their marketing is absolutely brilliant.

How would this equate to your MLM product? Lets say you buy a box load of your best “whiz bang juice”.  The best in the market by all measurable standards.

Go ahead and sit it on your driveway.  Does the MLM product sell itself?  Does it magically make sales on its own?

Another way to ask this question is,  because its a “revolutionary new product, or ground floor opportunity” does that magically create sales?

Its the marketing of the MLM product that really matters.

If it truly was all about the product, then every single distributor in the company with the best product would always be automatically be successful.  This simply does not happen.   The 97% failure rate in network marketing businesses still remains.

So whats really the point here?

Focus on the benefits of what your MLM product has to offer.  Does it relieve some pain for some ailment?  Is it a business opportunity that you can market online?
Then advertise and find those people who are looking for a solution to a problem that your product can cure.

If you focus on acquiring these kinds of target leads for your business, and offer your solution, your MLM product will sell, guaranteed.

By no means do I say that your MLM product doesn’t matter.  If you feel your product isn’t of top notch quality, then by all means go get into another business that does have one.

This is why I love network marketing online because you can VERY quickly identify a target market, and ZING, get your message in front of them.  Absolutely the quickest way to market anything, including MLM.

However, when you get into the “my product is better than your product” mode of marketing, you will live and die by that methodology.

There is always another product out there that people might think is better.

Simply move on and find a targeted market where people are looking for what your product provides.
