Pieces
is a darkly surreal cinematic concoction. It is a dream-like rendering
of forced collegiality under undesirable circumstances. It is
a snapshot of subconscious pressures stemming from the fear of
change, and the inability to improve one's situation despite,
and paradoxically due to, those pressures. It's about what happens
when one does something one loathes doing simply because the prospect
of changing one's routine has come to seem an even more loathsome
option.
Synopsis:
Two men and one woman convene one evening to play an odd and inexplicable
parlor game, with which each of the three is obsessed in his or
her own way. None of the three feels any particular desire to
engage in said play, yet each feels compelled to do so in spite
of much evidence that doing so is probably a bad idea. A mysterious
figure takes a particular interest in the affair, and watches
the proceedings with demonic glee.
