About The New Site…
I’m hoping this third-generation re-design of the site will answer some of the more nagging, longstanding deficiencies of its previous iterations. One of the biggest problems has been the lack of content relating to the movies I make to earn a living (as opposed to the movies I make purely out of my love for Auntie Kino); it’s hard to make an impression on potential clients, collaborators, or contractors when there’s nothing on one’s Web site which relates directly to the the type of work a client might want to talk about. So I’ve finally broken down and decided to build a page called services as part of a new effort to remedy that problem.
As for the blog: well, this isn’t my first attempt at it. When I first built the site back in 2002 (or so–I forget exactly when it was) I designed it around a simple blog in which I vainly attempted to sound like Mr. Fancypants McTellsyoueverything, for some reason believing that thousands of people were waiting on the edges of their seats to hear every little mundane detail about the different projects I was working on. When I redesigned the site for the first time three years ago, I again included a blog–but I called it “News” and (barely) used it to publicize events and so forth. Lately, as it became more and more apparent that it was time to bring the site up to date for a second time, I really started thinking about how much I wanted to write reviews of at least some of the seemingly countless movies I watch on a daily basis, to write critical essays on various film-related topics, and to once again begin to comment on the process of making films. So I’m going to try to make a go of it with this blog, and I’m going to try to post as regularly as I can. I know, everyone says that in their first blog posts. It’s a kind of meaningless rite, like tapping a new pack of cigarettes against one’s hand. Anyway, for what it’s worth… oh well, what does it really matter what I intend to do right now?
There are a lot of other things going on with this new site too. I think it’ll turn out to be quite an improvement.
By the way, I’m still very much working out the kinks. If you happen to find something that doesn’t work, let me know.
